Picture this:
You’ve just boarded the sailing vessel Pomaika’i and as she heads out the channel to the open water of the Albemarle Sound you start to glimpse the western sky. What’s missing you wonder…then it hits you. There’s no land to the west.
|
That’s when you know you’re in for a very special treat. The sunsets aboard Pomaika’i are second to none. The peace, quiet, and romance are like a dream. |
As the sun starts to get low in the sky Captain Frank pulls out the conk shells. He tells you and your group that it’s a Hawaiian tradition to blow the Pu (conk) only up to the moment that the sun dips below the earth, but never after the final kiss of sunset. The blowing of the Pu is our way of saying Mahalo (thanks). |
 |
All you have to do is master it. So, one at a time everyone can learn to blow the conk. Some make wonderful music, some make little noises, but everyone makes everyone laugh and smile. You’ve made it into a very exclusive club, Pomaika’i Conky Tonkers. You’ll take your friends to the website, obxsail.com, later to see the photos and instantly your memories will return. This is truly a Pomaika’i experience. |
 |
As Pomaika’i enters the channel to return to port our group looks back to the western sky. With the sun now set the sky is ablaze with hues of purple, orange, red and golden yellow. |
You’ll not have to remember the scene because the first mate has gotten the perfect sunset photo with you and your group, next year’s Christmas card shot for sure! Does it get any better than this? I think not. |
Come and commune with nature, snuggle with your sweetie, and enjoy the company of newly made friends. Pomaika ’i is decks are large and expansive, there’s plenty of room for all. Whether your trip is with someone special, friends, or family each excursion is a new experience to remember for all time. |

Pomaika'i sails on this excursion Mon—Fri from Easter week through the end of October.
